Call for abstracts

Ten years ago the Thematic Network ECSPRESS presented the results of research on the European Dimensions in the Social Professions during a Pan-European Conference.

The conference proceedings were published:
Oldrich Chytil/Friedrich W. Seibel (Eds) 1999: > European Dimensions in Training and Practice of Social Professions < Boskovice: Albert.

In the last decade the social professions were affected by the Bologna process, by neo-liberal social policies which dominate the social, and by the fact that they are involved in a complex process of professionalisation and differentiation. It is time to reflect on these developments as a group of European academics and practitioners.

An international conference will take a place in Ostrava from October 3 to4, 2008 on the topic:

Social Professions for a Social Europe:
Review – Insights - Prospects

Three important actors representing the social professions (ECSPRESS) will organize this conference:

  • The European Centre for Community Education - ECCE
  • The European Association of Schools of Social Work - EASSW
  • Association Européen des Centre de Formation au Travail Socio-Educative - FESET

The conference program will be available in due course on our website www.ecce-net.eu.

Apart from keynote speakers we expect colleagues from the social professions to contribute shorter papers in workshops and posters for AGORA (presentations of projects, presentations of social service providers and schools. Apart from presentation the aim is finding partners for educational and research projects or praxis).

Corresponding to the format of the conference of 1998 the seminar in October 2008 will also concentrate on three thematic pillars:

  • 1.European Dimensions in the Curriculum Development of the Social Professions
  • 2.The Role of the Social Professions in Fighting Social Exclusion
  • 3.Social Professions in Changing Socio-political contexts in Europe

The papers presented in the workshops will be published in the series ‘Ecspress Edition’.

We invite authors from all European countries to contribute.
